Right, when we read Kabbalistic texts we should immerse ourselves in it completely, letting their thoughts be our thoughts as much as possible. We want to be as close to the state they are in, the state they wrote from and this means we need to nullify ourselves. I don’t know if it’s accurate to say we want the thoughts of the friends, but we certainly do want to feel them. The more we feel them, the more we feel them as important and this is a means to the goal.
Yes. In our times it’s “choosing the right environment” and later we’ll see where it is that makes us truly independent of the Creator. This is already in spiritual degrees where we discover our action between the Klipa and Kedusha.
