We were not designed to stay happy unless we learned to give also. Which is why giving makes us feel good but wont last. Its only a portion of what is true for the two laws of nature. When we understand we are to receive properly spiritually and learn to give spiritually what the take on behalf of the creator we can learn true happiness which we learn tot do by sharing with others spiritually
We are raised in invidualistic societies. In order for the Ego to grow it has to be enhanced from the outside. With growing wealth, we can afford to imagine that we are strong, independent and need nobody.
On the other hand, we are often scared to lose what we have and are in need of protection against external rivals, who threaten to take our power, independance and ressources. The battle against external forces strengthens the Ego even more.
It becomes a vicious circle – the more independent we are, the more scared we become and we hide even deeper in our imagined separate self.
We need this process to develop a Point in the heart, but while we are in it, giving to others can be a scary thing.
It’s difficult for us to agree with the results of the research on pro-social spending because we want it all for ourselves, we do not think of others first. Our natural tendency is to think of our own gratification first. We have also not seen many examples of pro-social spending in our society and the benefit it brings to us.
