Preparation Question: Our entire work in Kabbalah is only to attract the light that reforms. By this we receive everything we need for our advancement. Furthermore, I’m told that if I will help the others, I will advance myself even more towards spirituality. How does this work? What does it mean to help the others, those with the point in the heart, on the spiritual path?

We can only attract the light when we ourselves become like him with the quality of bestowal. Giving help to the others altruistically is loving your friends as yourself giving pleasure to the Creator. Putting yourself as their stepping stone for them to spiritually move forward.

If there is only the Creator and all is for my benefit, then helping others is helping myself. To be on the spiritual path, the light that reforms transforms me so that by helping others it for that sake alone, and not with the intention to help myself, though that may be a by product. Working with others on the path is how to attract the light that can assist us all in this work.

We need to learn how to go above ourselves and see our friends in the same eye as the G-d. That old saying that we often see in others the very thing we dislike about ourselves is perhaps at the foundation of this subject. If we can see those things in others that we dislike about ourselves then we must also understand that the friend is not the source of this but rather the G-d. This is the opportunity to rise above our reason, and develop a love for those who are used as the vessels of correction for myself and to love them and the G-d for that beautiful gift.

      Shalom.

Seeing the friends as reflections of Creator. To love others as if they are myself.
