An egoistic perception of reality is when I see myself as the centre and all must satisfy me. This is not sustainable. A spiritual perception based on bestowal is not about satisfying my desires but satisfying the desires the whole, of which I am part. This is sustainable. This shift is done in the name of the Creator.

I’m trying to apply this very practically, so when someone was behaving badly towards me the other day, after initially getting angry (my desire), I thought I should see this person as the Creator himself delivering a lesson to me.  Then I can thank God for providing the lesson through this individual.  That allowed me to direct love and appreciation toward this person for the lesson in controlling my emotions.

The psychological and philosophical answers are many. In Kabbalistic ans spiritual terms it would be a shift from viewing the world with ALL it’s resourses (nature, creatures, other humans and even the moon and mars) is there for the taking and for the bennefit of one self, to understanding that it is ONE giant system that everything and everyone is part of. And by implication of this, one starts to take/use only what’s needed and try to make sure that everyone around oneself has what THEY need. And also try to understand how ones actions might hurt somewhere else in the world, be it the country next door or anywhere else…
