Hi Al,
The intention is what exists in a persons heart at any moment. We cannot change our intention other then by arranging for ourselves an environment that will influence us with thoughts about the importance of spirituality and bestowal.
If a person organizes for themselves such an environment, then this automatically begins to work on a person bringing them closer to an intention of bestowal. For now, it is enough that a person focuses ones efforts on choosing the right environment and strengthening this environment every day. From the influence of the environment it will become clear how one should work with each thought that arises.

In the beginning, a person does not truly want to attain spirituality. Hence, one must work on acquiring the desire for the desire for spirituality through integrating with the environment of books and friends.

It’s not a matter of choosing good instead of pleasure. Rather, the good actions one does leads to the attainment of the eternal pleasures of spirituality. So by choosing good, meaning bestowal, one receives greater pleasures, but this is specifically in his vessels of bestowal and not his vessels of reception.

The reason a person cannot receive lasting pleasure is because of the tzimtzum, or restriction, which prevents the light of hochma from entering the vessel unless there is an intention of bestowal. Until we acquire this intention, which is the screen, it is not possible to attain lasting pleasure. This help from above ensures that each person will eventually come to the decision that they must attain the quality of bestowal.

Joseph – KabU InstructorModeratorHi Mrc,
The tzimtzum prevents the created beings from receiving from the Creator directly. This in no way changes anything about Him, but only our perception towards Him. It follows that all concealment is only on behalf of the created being.

Joseph – KabU InstructorModeratorHi Mrc,
Everything we perceive comes to us from the Creator in order to awaken us towards the necessity to develop ourselves spiritually. And we should view each state as an opportunity to come closer to Him.
Kabbalists write that any flaw we perceive in a person, we are actually perceiving our own flaws. Although we may not find corporal reasons for why everything happens, we can cling to the words of the sages who teach us how we should view this reality in order to enter the spiritual reality. In this way we move towards our goal of bestowal and love.
