Where does our consciousness come from?
- November 18, 2024 at 10:04 am EST #402128Albert – KabU InstructorModerator
Hi Nancy,
Our consciousness depends on our desires. If our desires are uncorrected or egoistic, then we experience consciousness on the level of this world. If we correct our desires towards love and bestowal, then we’ll begin to reveal the spiritual level of consciousness, which is a collective consciousness.

I have a more mundane question about where we are in this course. I had to take two week-long business trips last month. I didn’t have much internet access or cell service for either of those. And I haven’t been able to attend any of the zoom meetings yet. On top of that, my email was sending invites to spam for a couple weeks before I noticed they were missing.
At this point I am not certain where we are in the course… what week is it?
I have been studying when I am able to. I have completed all the course materials up to week 4.
I’ve read Attaining the Worlds Beyond and Basic Concepts in Kabbalah.
I have listened to Unlocking the Zohar twice on Audible.
And I’ve been reading the Zohar before bed every night. I often have to repeat half of what I read the night before, but I have still gotten about 200 pages. So, in some ways I am behind. But I don’t feel behind. I just want to make sure I am not missing any next steps for the end of this course, in order to move on and continue with group activities. I should have time for group things starting next week.
Thanks for helping me sort that out.

Hi Logynn,
The fundamentals and intermediate semesters open up a new week’s worth of materials every week. But for the most part these semesters are self-study courses. So whatever pace you’re going through the materials is fine.
As for spiritual work in a group, that begins in the advanced semester.

Hello.
I’m still a bit confused about the screen you should put over the vessel in order to feel the difference between the will to receive and the will to bestow. If I understand correctly, it’s an intention to understand the thought of creation behind my desires, and I should reject the ones that come from the ego, and embrace those that are altruistic. Am I right? Could you give me an example? Thank you!- October 16, 2024 at 7:09 pm EDT #393883Albert – KabU InstructorModerator
Hi Jacques,
The screen is the intention that is placed over the desire. It’s the calculation of how much the desire can receive in order to bestow.

I understand that there are two paths to returning to our original state—pain and light. While the path of light involves awareness and transformation, I sometimes find it difficult to apply that understanding in my everyday life. What can I do to consistently stay on the path of light, especially when I feel myself slipping into unconscious patterns?
I understand that suffering is meant to make us question its cause, and that our egoism is the source of this disconnection. While I grasp this conceptually, how can I remain consistently aware of my ego’s role in my development and actively work to accelerate my progress, moving ahead of the wave of pain? Additionally, how can I identify what I need to change so that my life improves?

Hi Natu,
1. In practice, we need to focus on building a stronger spiritual environment for ourselves. And accelerating our development or choosing the path of light or being aware of the ego will all be a result of that.
See my reply below to Robert for more details.
2. You don’t need to make big changes to study Kabbalah. Just keep going, keep placing yourself under the influence of the light, (especially through the Kabbalistic studies) and you’ll gradually begin to feel yourself changing.
