What do you think was the result of the “Ignored Condition” in Dan Ariely’s research and why?

I think that their being ignored stirred their ego, their assessment of the value they deserve vs what they were receiving in terms of both money and acknowledgement made a slight towards their ego.

The “ignored” condition turned out almost as demotivating as having the work shredded, because when effort is not seen or acknowledged, people feel that their time and contribution are meaningless. In other words, simply not recognizing someone’s work signals that they don’t matter, which quickly kills motivation and willingness to continue.

I think that being ignored can be as detrimental as having the work destroyed in front of you.  Recognition matters. A lack of recognition of a person’s efforts can lead to demotivation in contrast to those who receive even the slightest acknowledgment for their efforts.

The ignored condition stack of papers also did not have names on them. Perhaps she thought h well I’m not paying them more so why should they feel my wrath.
