      I think people were willing to do even less, because they don’t get any recognition of their work. If it’s shredded there is still some importance adressed to it.

      Being ingnored is very  painfull ,  but seeing your  efforts destroying  is more worse.  I think this ignored section would be somewhere in the middle

      More people continued, they want some recognition for their work. They must fill their desire to receive pleasure.
