Preparation Question: Our entire work in Kabbalah is only to attract the light that reforms. By this we receive everything we need for our advancement. Furthermore, I’m told that if I will help the others, I will advance myself even more towards spirituality. How does this work? What does it mean to help the others, those with the point in the heart, on the spiritual path?

For me, a key component in this process is to learn how to receive criticism. Learning to hear the voice of a friend as the voice of the creator is a strange concept to me… I have always considered Job’s friends and they’re misunderstanding of his being tested. That being said, I come from a dance background where criticism is actually a compliment on one’s potential to improve. Without a community there is no real conflict to push us forward. Without community there is no opportunity for criticism. Without community we would lose the opportunity to actually begin to love our neighbor as ourselves and all that comes with that. In the verse citing this love, the Shema, joined with the idea of loving your neighbor as yourself is also loving the creator with all of our heart, mind, and strength… In my mind they must be intrinsically tied principles. To love the creator I must love others. To love others I must be able to accept and love myself.

“You shell love your neighbor as yourself”.  Work in a group is based on that.

Each member has to rise above his ego.  We have to support each other by reminding that we all have the same goal and without a group it is impossible to develop the quality of bestowal.

By working with others you create a bigger connection to attract the light that reforms

To help others means to show up, do my correction work, stay balanced and persist, to be there for others. To move from this isolated, separate, egoistic way of living to seeing others as myself.
