A descent is only what makes you not think about spirituality, the friends, bestowal, etc. To the extent you invest in a ten, you will not be able to enter long descents. It’s all in your hands.

These are good questions, but each has a clear solution. You don’t need to find a group, you’ll be provided a virtual group in the graduate environment, and since the work is from your heart outward whether you can touch them physically or not, it’s sufficient.
You’re right that you can’t and don’t need to suppress corporeal desires. That’s not the field for cultivating spiritual capital. That’s trying to work on oneself. I can work on myself through others. That’s the game Nature arranged. Whereas I’m like some hologram with which nothing effective can be done spiritually, if I’m trying to work on myself directly.
(As long as we’re not talking about physically giving stuff away, etc.) you can think of it that way. Really it’s intending that my action will bring greater unity in the broken Kli, thus giving Him contentment – and the stage called ‘bestowing to bestow’ is doing this without revelation of the impact of my action.

Most productive for now is to notice how I don’t have any actions besides actions motivated by self-benefit, and to notice the wide buffet of types of receiving there are in me. This is the nature the Creator made in us. When we study the Wisdom of Kabbalah the Reforming Light works and exposes this to us more and more, and then it imparts additional work to do beyond this.
