This is simply the root of the intention, “for myself”. Prior to this, there was no such thing as “I’m going to receive just because” nor “I’m going to receive for my enjoyment”. The “sin” is simply that I want to connect all my kelim (vessels) and thus receive the Light in them, but he is missing such a Masach (screen), that is, he does not have such a great intention to bestow back to the Light that is capable of covering the unimaginable pleasure the Light has in it.

Instead of trying to picture the Klipot – which definitely won’t be a correct picture – just think that the Klipot are intentions to receive. When we get to the Upper World, which are worlds of holiness, meaning bestowal, next to each ‘holy act’, which means an action of bestowal, there is a unique Klipa next to it that can turn this holy act into an act of reception. Imagine you buy someone a gift, but as you’re about to give it you discover that you yourself want this present so much that you’re unable to give it away. Next to each spiritual action, which is what the Upper World consists of, there stands this Klipa, an intention to receive that has to be corrected and made holy. Meaning it is a way that could either throw me back down into our world or it can aim the intention more precisely to the goal of bestowal, precisely by standing opposite to it, giving it precision.

Yes, one who can receive in order to give contentment to the Upper Force without any admixture of self-reception, is considered to be actually bestowing – since I don’t want to receive, I’m as removed from my own desire as the Upper Force is, and thus I can relate to my desire only as a tool to give.

Possibly this summer, but nothing is set in stone. It depends on the state of the pandemic.

    Hi Cheryl,

Am I supposed to solve all those people’s problems? The Upper Light has everything in it, all abundance. Only it isn’t revealed, this ocean of abundance. But the Light is “the good that does good”. And the goal of Creation is for me to become like the Light, bestowing like the Light, instead of receiving, which is my nature. But we see that the Upper Light does not reveal to all, otherwise all these problems would be solved instantly. So, for me to solve those problems is not me being similar to the Light, then is it? It fills the whole of reality, and yet these problems remain. Baal HaSulam calls those who try to reform the world externally “world reformers” and points to their weakness as the Upper Light will not allow us to touch anything (“improve”) what has been created. After all, it is not that the world is broken, as it appears to me. Rather, only I am broken. Internally, I’m shattered, like I’m looking at some object through a broken lens, and so the object itself appear to be broken into pieces. Therefore, I see the singular, whole, beautiful reality as hideous. Really everyone is connected, whole, abundant. Only I need to reveal this, and that revelation is called revealing the spiritual world. So, on the one hand I need to relate realistically to things, because this imagination is real for me still, and on the other hand understand that I will not be allowed to “fix” anything in that shattered picture I see because nothing is really broken. I’m approaching these shards trying to fix them and they stand, whole, already adhered as a single abundant entity. Only I’m projecting onto everyone my shattered perspective. Thus, all that remains to do is to correct my perception. And the Upper Light that we draw during the study of the wisdom of Kabbalah enables it.

Actually, nearly all centers closed with the pandemic. So, when we meet physically for a special convention it is in a rental. For example, there was a retreat in upstate New York recently. But there isn’t so much of a need for physical locations anymore, and so I don’t know if they will reopen. We see the world is moving in the direction of working from home. And spiritual work, since it is work from my heart outwards, to exit myself in my intentions and aim them towards others, meeting physically isn’t more than a psychological trick by which, after all is said and done, I will have the same inner work to do of exiting my box towards others. But we can use the trick of meeting physically sometimes as well, and after the graduate program you can see if there is a ten in your area that it’s worthwhile to be connected with.
