    Carly,
Here is a quote from Baal HaSulam’s article The Peace.
“The same souls that were at the time of the flood came also during the time of Babylon, and in the exile in Egypt, and in the exodus from Egypt, etc., until this generation and until the end of correction.

Thus, in our world, there are no new souls the way bodies are renewed, but only a certain amount of souls that incarnate on the wheel of transformation of the form, for each time they clothe a new body and a new generation.”

    Verena,
There are many phenomenon like the ones you describe.
Some people are very sensitive to more subtle forces.
We can relate ourselves to  the experience experienced thinking about our mom and she calls, or looking at someone in another car and they feel our eyes on them and turn and look at us.
There are situations where people can feel each other over vast distances.
All of this and more are within the realm of what the kabbalists call “this world”.
The spiritual perception that the kabbalists are writing to us about is built in the connection of people in a highly organized, highly flexible, complex, sensitive system where the Upper Light can dwell.
And then one sees with inner vision, inner senses.

    David,
If you ask the scientific community, reality itself is an illusion.  Even if you do a study on let’s say vision, you’ll learn that what we see is largely  created by the brain, rather than a direct representation of reality. But more than that, we are constructing reality outside of us based on our desire.  We will learn a lot more about this later.
In short the answer to your question is yes, however, we have to live day to day according to what we see.
Live according to what we see and simultaneously start building a new perception based the reality that the kabbalists attained and describe in their books.  And then while we make efforts to bridge the gap, what we are doing is actually building the new spiritual senses to perceive the single, unified reality and with those senses you will sense that everything is connected and you will feel all the threads connecting reality together, but your eyes will always see what eyes see and your hands will feel what hands feel.
Spiritual senses and physical senses are two different systems and they are designed this way on purpose that specifically through one system we can come to know the other.

    Marita,
We are learning about very exalted things but we are at the beggining of the path.  It is like sitting down to play piano on day one vs. being Beethoven.  Both people are playing piano but there is a huge difference.  So while you talk about the final form of the prayer that it is all for the sake of the Creator and we are pure pipeline of His light, that is the goal.  In the meantime we can’t help but pray and act and think with some benefit for ourselves.  That is normal.  We try to refine that over and over again and understand ourselves, Him and the process we are in, getting closer and closer each time.

    David,
Pray for everything.  Speak to the Creator about everything and also tell Him that you want to pray more and more for Him, for the others and not just for the sake of my own ego.  But anyway, ask for everything.
You see how it is with our own kids, when they are young they ask for toys, when they get older they ask for a car, the desires develop naturally.  Same with us.  The main thing is that we are connected to the Creator as much as we can.  And then we try more and more to ask not for the sake of our egos, but this takes time and is nuanced and in fact is impossible since He Himself created us as egoistic.
So when we pray, we examine why am I praying and then we see that at the end we can’t escape from self interest and this leads to the true prayer that He will give us a second nature.
Keep going David. Pray for her, pray for your family, pray for everyone and ask Him to make our prayers true.
