Aaron,
Suppose you have a young child, your child whom you cherish.
Your beloved child goes to school for her first day and with her fingers paints a picture, it is just colors smeared all over the page.
At the end of the day the child comes to you with a big glow on her face and pride in her heart hands the wet, messy paper of paint to you.

You are the receiver.   You are receiving the painting.
Imagine if you rejected the painting!  Imagine how she would feel heartbroken if you didn’t receive.
So you by receiving from her are giving to her.  Her desire is to give to you and you receiving fulfills her desire.
We can see from this simple example that it is not about whether our hands are giving or receiving, but what is our internal attitude.

You are correct, we are a will to receive and we will remain a will to receive.  That is the creation that the Creator made.
Through our inner work we invert our intention slowly slowly from receiving in order to receive to receiving in order to bestow.

We are embarking on a spiritual path, that is tricky because we are always measuring with our material vessels.

So I will give you some advice.
Go over the lesson material each week several times.  Take notes in a notebook, write them out.  If you went to a gym you would put in effort, so similarly put in effort with the material.

You will see as you progress that everything you do will be built on this foundation.
Imagine you go to build a skyscraper but the foundation is only 1 meter deep?!
Study all this material well.  You will look back later and be amazed at how you are advancing.

This is pointed question that arises when we come to the wisdom of kabbalah.
The secret to the answer is in understanding that the wisdom of kabbalah is bringing you to a totally new perception of reality.
For example, and just as an example to try to illustrate this point.  Imagine that everything that you see in this world is happening in a mirror so you can move right and left and back and forth, but you are never actually “fixing” reality, everything you see is just a reflection of things that happened before.  This world is a world of results.  The causes happen before they reach this material world.
So on the one hand by studying the wisdom of kabbalah, you will come in touch with roots of the forces that finally descend to this world.

And also on the other hand, this world is like a sandbox for children.  In this world we get to develop our feelings and understanding so we must go through many exercises in this world.

In short, the good future that the world needs will not come from an NGO, it will come from a transformation of our nature towards love and we will discuss this and learn about it much more later.

In the meantime we must be engaged in this world and so if it is customary for you to give tzedakkah, do so.  If you work for an NGO, so that is your work.

It is a little confusing because as you will discover, a kabbalist lives in two worlds, the spiritual world which is a different perception altogether and this world.

Jack,
I started understanding your question but the more I read it the more I’m sure I’m not sure what you are asking.
Are you saying you understand being able to pray for the sake of the Creator but you’re not sure about shorting a stock for the sake of the Creator?
Don’t worry about what you’ll do when you acquire perception of the spiritual reality above time and space.  When you are there you will know what to do and you won’t make a mistake about it.
In the meantime, try to to understand the structure of the these relations and dynamics that the kabbalists are writing to us about.
They tell us that malchut made a restriction that she would not receive the direct light into her vessel.  Then she makes a calculation, I will let the light in, only on the condition that I can enjoy this for the sake of the Creator.
See if you can find where these kind of emotions are.  What does this feel like even on the smallest degree.
You will start to understand and feel a little bit and build this structure in your inner feelings and then you will approach life with a different operating system.

Depending on where you live, there are many different religions and groups that have many different perceptions of reality with all kinds of different forces, demons, angels.
Each group makes up their own story for why life is the way that it is.

Here, we are studying the structure of reality and how to attain the Creator.  We received our method from Baal HaSulam, the great kabbalist who received it from his teacher all the way back in an unbroken chain for thousands of years.
It is good for you to study with us and discover and for now, you don’t need to debate anyone else or challenge anyone else or convince anyone else of what we are studying.
Let them be with their beliefs.
If the Creator awakens in them bigger questions, then they will need bigger answers.  For the time being, this is the best place for their development.
Also later we will learn about how we can spread the wisdom of kabbalah in a way that others can receive it in a comfortable way.

In the meantime, they were brought up with some beliefs and they were taught some beliefs so they don’t have any control over this.  This is how they were programmed to believe.

We have our work to do, and we are doing it.  We are learning about the nature of reality, we are testing it on ourselves, we are advancing with mind and heart, step by step so that we will not fail.
We are working together with others who are doing the same like us from day to day.
