  • Hi Joseph,

That’s not quite it. The deep powerful cry to the Creator is not a passive state, rather it comes from the efforts we make to connect. And it’s not a sad state, but rather a joyous one. Baal HaSulam writes about it in Letter 57, here’s an excerpt:

“There is no happier state in man’s world than when he finds himself despaired with his own strength. That is, he has already labored and done all that he could possibly imagine he could do, but found no remedy. It is then that he is fit for a wholehearted prayer for His help because he knows for certain that his own work will not help him.”

    Hi Joseph,

We learn from the shattering of the system of Adam HaRishon that the only thing that is broken in the ENTIRE system of creation are the proper connections between people. This is the only thing that is broken and the only thing we need to correct.

In other words, each one of us is perfect. We don’t need to correct ourselves. We only need to correct our connection with others. It’s just like when doing a large jigsaw puzzle. Each piece is unique and necessary as is. We don’t start recoloring the pieces or cutting off seemingly redundant parts. All we need to do is find where each piece fits relative to all the other pieces.

It’s the same with us. Each one of us is like that unique jigsaw piece. We don’t need to fix ourselves or change ourselves. The ego and 613 corrections that we’re talking about are not within me. The ego is what stands in the way of my connection with others. So our focus should be entirely on the connection with others. We do this work first of all with other points in the heart that are together with us on this spiritual path. After we learn how to connect with them, we can expand this connection to the whole world. We’ll learn how to do this practically in the more advanced lessons.

    Hi Carlos,

I’m not an expert in other methods, so I cannot comment on what they do or teach there. As for the worlds, the 5 spiritual worlds are not place like we think, but rather levels of concealment. World (Olam in Hebrew) comes from the word Concealment (ha-alama). So the 5 worlds are 5 levels of concealment between us, the desire to receive, and the Creator the general force of love and bestowal. To the extent that we correct our own opposite, egoistic nature, for it to also operate in the direction of bestowal, to that extent we reveal these worlds, these higher qualities.

All of this follows the law of equivalence of form. Check out this blog post from Rav Laitman for more details: http://laitman.com/2013/04/everything-is-attained-by-the-equivalence-of-form/

As for our world, when Kabbalists use the term “assiya” or even the term “this world” they are not referring to our current world. Our world is below the ladder of spiritual degrees. Kabbalists call our world “the imaginary world”. Since once we correct ourselves, relative to that corrected state this life would appear as nothing more than a dream.

    Hi Pedro,

I’m sorry but I cannot comment on your personal situation, we can only talk about these things in general. In general, Kabbalah is not a magical pill to get rid of all of our problems. Such a thing does not exist. This is because we’re egoists and avoiding pain is one of the major motivating forces for us. If we were to get rid of that force, then we would have no drive to continue our development.

So what good is studying Kabbalah then? It’s in order to correct our egoism. Once we correct it, we will no longer need problems and suffering in order to push us to develop because we ourselves will generate the force for our development.

As for issues within the ten, I cannot comment on that either. In general, it’s very rare for a person to get removed from a ten. It’s because we’re all learning and learning involves making lots and lots of mistakes. Usually all the members of the ten understand this and are therefore very patient with each other. The only times a person get removed from a ten is if a person is directly causing harm to others. And harm is not necessarily that someone is picking up a knife and trying to hurt someone else, but harm can also include spiritual harm, that we’re diverting the friends from the spiritual path. But this is very rare and generally involves a lengthy discussion within the ten and the ten coordinator. But again, it’s not my place to comment on such things, you can contact the Latin American tens coordinator to discuss this further.

    Hi Don,

You’re right, more important than reading the Zohar, is knowing how to extract the maximum light, the maximum benefit from reading it. Otherwise the benefit of reading the Zohar is relatively small. If you’re interested in learning how to do that, you can check out the Zohar self study course or the book Unlocking the Zohar.

    Hi Sharon,

By becoming similar to the Creator, we rise above the feeling of time, of past, present, and future. But in order to do that, we need to focus on the present, on becoming similar to Him in His qualities of bestowal here and now.

As for dwelling on the past, in general, the healthiest attitude towards the past is to say “there is none else besides Him” and that we went through exactly what we needed to go through. Beyond that, we should be very happy that through everything we went through, we merited an awakened point in the heart. After all, less than 1% of the world has this desire and we were as if handpicked by the Creator to be among such people.

So don’t go digging into the past, don’t despair or feel guilty, but rather focus on the present, on the opportunity that is presented before us and be happy for the priceless gift that we received!
