Naturally we only want to receive and we give only when giving brings us pleasure. If I loved people the way I love my children, I could give to them and also enjoy my giving. When I cannot give the person I love what he needs, such love is painful. Therefore, we are afraid of losing love since it is a source of pleasure for us, and without feeling loved a person feels that he doesn’t exist.
