It seems like the only worthwhile thing anyone can do is pursue a connection to the Upper Force, the source of eternal fulfillment. All other desires and fulfillments are transient.
And since it is not quite clear what this connection feels like or means to someone locked into the corporeal world, the entire aim of our life and all of our efforts should be concentrated on this alone.
May 3, 2024 at 7:14 pm EDT in reply to: Where exactly is your free will? Can you identify where it is real and where it is an illusion? #371076Nick MartinezParticipantThis is actually a point of contention I have always had with Kabbalah since I began learning about it many years ago.
Kabbalah asserts that our only freedom of choice lies in the environment we choose to put ourselves in. But isn’t the available choices of environment also a consequence of forces beyond our control?
Even in the most optimal case, lets say a person is born and raised in the city of Tzfat where there is high concentration of individuals engaged in the pursuit of spirituality – is it not still up to the Creator for those people to be presented in that persons life? One hypothetically could seek the right environment for their entire life and still not find it! It seems that the right people are given to a person only by forces beyond his control, and thus the choice of environment also seems to be only another ‘false’ choice because we can only select from the options given to us from Above.
Maybe someone can chime in and correct my understanding. Thanks

Nick MartinezParticipantHi everyone,
I’ve already gone through the KabU main courses, but have decided to go through the rest of these courses to stay engaged and excited about spirituality.
May 3, 2024 at 5:46 pm EDT in reply to: How can I pray in a way that will get my prayers answered? #371071Nick MartinezParticipantThe way this question is phrased almost seems as if it’s a trick.
Praying in a special way to somehow manipulate the Upper Force into answering my prayers and giving me what I want is simply an extension of the same type of prayer that is always given (and ignored) by the Creator, e.g. a prayer that is made for the filling of an egoistic desire (the only desires we have) that has not been fulfilled.
This is because the Creator is always in complete and total bestowal towards it’s creation, and from the perspective of the Upper Force the Creature is already complete. Consequently the egoistic prayers we make to the Creator are essentially irrelevant. The Creator already knows the desires in our hearts without us ever having to speak them aloud, so the formal request for the fulfillment of those desires are unneeded because they are already heard. But since the light cannot enter an egoistic vessel, the fulfillment of these desires are not felt and as a result the prayer ‘appears’ to be ignored.
However after fully comprehending the reality of our situation, particularly after coming to the Wisdom of Kabbalah through an awakened desire to rise above this apparent lack of relationship with the Creator, this realization eventually guides us to the only prayer that could ever possibly lead to the fulfillment of all other desires of the Creature. This prayer is a true and sincere need for the Creator, and to have the strength and faith to justify all of His actions as good. Eventually, this prayer (or desire) leads to the diminishing of the egoistic desires we were born with, and creates the space for the first non-egoistic desire to know and Love the Creator.
And because the Light can only enter non-egoistic desires, this desire allows for the perception of the Creator and begins the process of correction of the egoistic desires.
